To investigate the analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties of seed extracts of Diplocyclos palmatus (L) C. Jeffrey. Three extracts of different polarity of Diplocyclos palmatus (L) C. Jeffrey seeds were tested for their analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities. Analgesic activity was evaluated using the hot plate and acetic acid-induced writhing in mice. Anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated using carrageenan induced rat paw edema and cotton pellet granuloma in rats. Pretreatment with ethanolic extract of Diplocyclos palmatus (L) C. Jeffrey at 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg showed significant dose dependent analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects in acetic acid induced pain model, carrageenan induced rat paw edema and cotton pellet granuloma models, while petroleum ether extract and aqueous extract of Diplocyclos palmatus (L) C. Jeffrey at 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg showed weak analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. The findings in this study suggest that the ethanolic seed extract of Diplocyclos palmatus (L) C. Jeffrey possesses analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities.
